Question Serial number confusion

I have a 2000 model year BF40 and need to purchase some replacement parts (eg carb. jets). The problem I am having is relating the apparent numbers of my engine to websites showing serial numbers for my model.

My handbook (filled out by PO) indicates the Product Identification Number as 3200055 -- and this does indeed appear to be the number stamped on the difficult-to-read, corroded, aluminum plate on the transom mount.

The handbook also refers to the Engine Serial Number as BAYE-2003906. The ESN is apparently stamped into the engine block but is buried behind the starter motor and other parts, and requires their removal to read this number.

The problem I am having is the BAYE number does not appear to be a valid number, and both the PIN and the ESN have 7 numerals and are close enough that either could be the number requested by the parts sellers.

Which number is the correct one to use for sourcing parts --- or is the correct answer "none of the above"?????

Default Confusion resolved

For anybody else equally confused!!

The Engine Serial Number begins with BAYE (located on engine block)

The Frame Serial Number begins with BAYS but that prefix is NOT shown on the aluminum plate on the transom mount and is also referred to as the Product Identification Number in the Honda handbook.

It is the BAYS (Frame) number not the BAYE number that is used to identify engine parts - you also need the product features as specified in the sticky above. For example, my motor is a BF40AY LRTA.
