Serial number confusion
I have a 2000 model year BF40 and need to purchase some replacement parts (eg carb. jets). The problem I am having is relating the apparent numbers of my engine to websites showing serial numbers for my model.
My handbook (filled out by PO) indicates the Product Identification Number as 3200055 -- and this does indeed appear to be the number stamped on the difficult-to-read, corroded, aluminum plate on the transom mount.
The handbook also refers to the Engine Serial Number as BAYE-2003906. The ESN is apparently stamped into the engine block but is buried behind the starter motor and other parts, and requires their removal to read this number.
The problem I am having is the BAYE number does not appear to be a valid number, and both the PIN and the ESN have 7 numerals and are close enough that either could be the number requested by the parts sellers.
Which number is the correct one to use for sourcing parts --- or is the correct answer "none of the above"?????
