Default Replacing shift rod water seal

I need to replace the shift rod water seal on a 2000 Honda 130. I've removed the 6x12mm hex bolt and washer that holds down one side, but cannot tell how to pull up the shift rod holder to get at the seal. There are two plastic tabs on the holder that look as though they could be pried up, but it's not moving and I'm afraid I'm going to break the tabs. Probably something simple, but what am I missing?

In searching through the forum, I saw that you cannot let the shift rod come up during the replacement or it will disengage. That by itself was great advice. Thanks much.

Scott,

If I remember right, you also have to remove the water pump base.

You take two fairly large screwdrivers and gentle pry up the holder at the tabs. If it has a lot of hours, the tabs will probably break. If that happens, you can screw a couple of screws into the holder (since you would have to buy a new one anyway) and use them to pry it out. Be sure to replace the o ring around the seal in any case. Lube it up real good when you reinstall it...the edges are sharp and will cut the o ring if not careful.

Don't be too concerned when the shift shaft comes up. The pin on the inside should go right back into the narrow groove at the end of the prop shaft.

Thanks, Mike!

I'll give that a shot.
