Default plug wires

I think it's time to replace the plug wires and I guess they come as a kit? Coil and wires as a unit, one for 1 and 4 cylinder and one for 2 and 3 cylinder? Do I have that right?

How long do these typically last? I have no way to test them but the oil seal on the #4 spark plug tube leaked and the plug cap is pretty swollen.

Thanks for any thoughts on the subject.

You didn't mention what motor you have but the coils normally come with wires and plug boots as a set.

Duh!

1999 BF130.

I've replaced all the filters, adjusted the valves, new spark plugs. Everything except the plug wires. It's still running rough - missing. But, it's intermittent. It'll run good for a bit and then start to run rough and idle poorly.

I wish I could just get a qualified mechanic to take a look but I'm pretty far off the beaten track. It's an eight hour tow to the nearest town that has a certified mechanic over some pretty rough territory.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I could use similar advice. I've got one cylinder that's missing sometimes, and that wire gives off a heck of a shock. Engines have 500 hours on them. Carbs seem good, plugs are brand new. So I'm thinking it's time for wires. I already picked them up for twin BF50A's, but there's some sort of trick to swapping them out. Does that entire electrical area where they connect to the coil need to be removed?

The plug wires are made into coil, if you are trying to replace the wire in the coil probably wont be able to.

I'm in southern baja.

Ok, I'm going in. I'll order them and see how it goes. Wish me luck.
