New prop for 50
Gyday my first post here, I live in Australia.
I recently purchased a new bf50 outboard. I have it mounted on a aluminuim stacer 444 older type hull. It has the standard 11 1/8 Dia x 13 pitch alloy prop. It gets up and goes quite good, but when the motor is trimmed out to its most efficant position and a little tweak either way on the steering wheel it cavitates badly. With it trimmed fully down and on a tight turn it will sometimes let go or cavitate as well.
Now some details on the setup. The bottom of the cav plate is about 10mm below the strakes on the bottom of the boat or 25mm below the bottom flat between strakes of the hull. Motor wont go lower as it is down as far as possiable without cutting transom.
Boat is a runabout with ply floors beam is 1.9 meters. At WOT with motor trimmed right down it revs to 5700 and 43 km/h. Trimmed at most efficant, halfway on gauge at WOT it revs 6000 and hits the limiter does about 47 km/h.
Genral use for the boat is mainly fishing but with a growing family, water sports will be popular i.e kneeboard, sking etc. I wonder if my problems are due to the prop and would a solas stainless prop be a good investment as well as improving performance all round eg speed and getting up on the plane etc? Look forward to any help i hope to order a prop through this site if i can determine the right one as they are very affordable with the dollar at present.
