Yea, I had it happen to me last week.

I have a BF90AH with 4 carbs. It had been serviced 8 months ago and had the carbs rebuilt. Somehow I had a fuel overflow in carb #2 from the bottom which ignited. It melted the intake plenum and closed off the bottom carb completely.
In speaking with a dealer, he suggested it was either a stuck valve seat (or faulty one), contaminated gas with a particle that jammed the valve open, or a bad float. It was likely not bad gas, as the internal fuel filter was new (maybe 3-4 hours on it) plus I had a fuel separator. The carbs had been drained completely after the last season, so varnish buildup also cannot be blamed. I suspect a bad mechanic (the boat is in Baja California where starndards are not as high).
Where was your fire? Can you trace it back to an ignition source (ie. a fuel line, carb, electrical location etc.)?
