Hi all. Major boat newbie here. Bought a pontoon with a good Honda BF75AT 75HP motor...lower unit leaked and seized up. It is a 1994 model motor...while googling, I read that Mercury supplied Honda with these units.

I found a 1994 Mercury 75hp lower unit, near my home that had just been rebuilt, and the guy lost the power head. He wants $350 for it. Looks EXACTLY like mine, 'cept it is black. Will this swap out work?

On another note, found a shop in Kentucky that said they could modify one for me, just need my drive shaft. They want $650 plus my old one for exchange...(I am in NC...don't really want to pay that much and freight...)

I am extremely mechanically inclined, and fear no machine, but I need some good info here...

I would Love to get the one near me and be done with it...

Any input?
