I am trying to replace the impeller on a Honda 40HP four stroke. I cant get the lower unit off due to the Shifter rod. How do you disconnect the shifter rod in order to remove the lower unit?

The shift shaft has a threaded coupler just above the lower unit in front that has to be disconnected. It separates the upper shift from lower shift shaft.
