Default Honda 90 lower unit removal

I am preparing to remove the lower unit and replace it with a new one. I understand that corrosion on the alignment pins could make it difficult to separate. Other than draining the gear oil and removing the nylock nuts are there any other procedures that need to be done? I would greatly appreciate any advice on this subject.

Thank you

You don't have to drain oil to remove gearcase but just remove all bolts and drop it down.
