Default Honda 50 power trim activating by itself

Hi. I have a 2000 Honda 50 HP motor and after almost 10 years of lawless service, I put it in the water this week and it mysteriously turns on the trim up and before you know it the battery is dead. It appears to be a problem with the trim button on the shifter versus the engine but who knows.

???

You are absolutely right. Boat was uncovered in a huge rain before problem. Spent some time on the weekend trying to isolate the problem betweem the shifter and the engine tilt control. Disconnected the shifter control under the helm (spagetti junction) and now no problem. Have ordered a new shift button and harness - I'm sure it will work.

Cheers
