Unhappy honda 45 hp trim stuck on in down position

I was out fishing pulled anchor and began to take off when my motor came up out of the water on its own,i shut of motor and pushed down a bunch of times on the trim at the controller and finally it went down.
i heard the trim motor still running after the motor went all the way down.the only way i could stop the motor was to push the up button on trim ,so i loaded the boat with hand on up button, put trim in manual and lifted motor up and went home. looked at trim switches the one on the motor is hard to push but when i push it a couple times it clicks and stops the trim motor but doesnt go up just basically stops the trim from going down just like on the handle. any suggestions where to start

sorry for long post but wanted to give detail of what happend

thanks in advance

Sounds like I would check the trim switch first...
