Default Honda 150 damaged gear assembly!!

This fall I hit a rock with a moose, two guys and gear and full of gas with my 21 foot Habercraft with a 2005 150hp Honda. The gear assembly was broken and the prop was toast.
The $64,000 dollar question that I have is:
Would it be better to replace the whole unit for $2100.00? Or take it apart and replace the damaged parts? From what I can see the parts would cost me roughly $1200.00.
The motor still runs but the prop doesn't turn true, possibly bend prop shaft. And the outboard still ran and I went home with it on a new prop. But has to be fixed.
I'm somewhat mechanically inclined and wondering if the gear assembly is fixable by me or needs a shop with the certified tech with specialty tools.
Thanks

If replacing gears and bearing then will need to be reshimmed which does require special tools.
