Default Honda 130 Extension

Thanks in advance, I have the extension kit to convert my 01, 130 from 20 to 25.
When I remove the lower unit, can I remove the upper shift rod? Or do I need to remove the mid section to do so?
Great Forum Thanks

The engine will have to be removed to replace shift shaft.

You do not have to remove the engine to change the shift shaft. It has been a while since I had to tear one of these down, but you might have to remove the midsection. As long as it will clear the hole in the midsection, it should come out.

Be careful putting it back in. Be sure the flat spot is to the front and do not push too hard, so you do not knock off the e ring holding the upper shift shaft assembly on the bottom of the engine cover.

I have a BF115 with a 20" shaft that I converted to a 25" shaft. The midsection is the same from motor to motor. The only difference is the 5" extension separator, shift shaft inside the lower unit, water tube inside the mid-section, and last is the vertical shaft going up from the lower unit. You can re-use you taper bearing from your old shaft if it is the double bearing(forgot the dimensions). Dont want to discourage you from converting but these parts brand new are very exspensive. The 5" extension separator alone is a little over $700.00. The 25" vertical shaft is $450.00 new. You can find these parts used online but is very rare. Good luck with your conversion!
