Default Hole in extension case

I recently bought an used Honda 90hp from 2000. A month ago a little piece felt of leaving a dent/hole on about 1x1 cm. The hole didn't go through the extension case. Properly the engine had a bad repair by the previous owner (I will deal with him later ).

Yesterday I wanted to clean the little hole to get it repaired. Then I realised, that now the hole go all way through the extension case with a small opening on about 2x2 mm.

My questions are:
- is it repairable? Can a pro weld in the extension case?
- is it a problem if any water have entered the extension case? What is on "the other side?

Hope you can help me - and calm me, since we have planned to bring the boat on our holliday in 2 weeks.

The attached picture shows where the hole is placed.

Thanks

I don't think it's going to make a difference as long as there isn't any water going into the lower unit and mixing with the gear lube.

I will check the gear oil tomorrow. What about welding? It's some kind of aluminium, but seems kind of porous.

I don't think welding will work but you might try JB Weld on it. I'm pretty sure there's only water in that section looking at my parts breakdown.

Had a pro checking it today. Cwag911 are right - there is only water on "the other side". As well, it don't pay off to try to weld it. So I will just live with this new feature ;-)

Cwag911, thanks for your reply :-)
