My motor was overheating so I took apart the water pump and it was melted. After taking it apart I noticed there is a golf ball size hole in the extension case where the vertical shaft goes through. Is there any way to repair the case or do I have to replace the extension case? And what are some possible causes as to why this would happen?

If corrosion caused it then may be better to replace it, if a welder can get to it they may could repair it.
