Convert 7.5 hp to remote control
I own a 7.5 hp Honda outboard with the serial number B75 2004450. The title says it is a 1975 model. I have two questions. First, I am interested in adding remote control to the motor and already have a Morse shifter/throttle controller. I do not need remote steering control since the motor is on a sailboat. My question relates to the parts and mods necessary to convert the motor to remote throttle and shifting. I assume that the parts needed will come from the parts list for the Pre 1997 B75 listings. I see there are three versions the K1, K2 and K3 but all seem to share the same remote linkage components. The parts breakout for the "remote control" show a shift lever and pin retainer clip (honda codes 0363291 and 0363309). Question one is: Are these the only two parts I need to convert the shifter to remote control? Since I will not buy the steering control bracket I assume I will need to immobilize the shifter cable sleeve somehow in the motor. How is this cable to be routed into the motor and will the new shift lever attach easily? The diagram for the "remote control" indicates that it requires a hex bolt to attach to the shift shaft but it also appears in the diagram for the "shift shaft and carrying handle" that it would attach using a nut instead. Thanks for the help.
