I now have almost 200 HRS on my BFP60 and the maintenance schedule calls for a spark plug change. I can find no source for the specified NGK LMAR6C-9 (Honda #31908-ZZ3-003) other than Honda dealers. NGK doesn't even list these on their web site. The retail price for these is $29 and some change - EACH. I can't find a cross reference to any other brand plug. Any suggestions.
I couldn't just bring myself to pay $30 per without a fight. I called Honda direct and they confirmed LMAR6C-9 was made for the BF60 hence the low volume and high price. Still not satisfied I then called NGK. They said that was the case BUT there might be an alternative. They also have a LMAR6A-9 which is stock # 5946. They said the specs for this plug is the same as the LMAR6C-9 except the terminal (top of the plug) is a threaded stud. On the "C" the terminal nut (solid slip over post) is built-in. So by just adding a terminal nut to the "A" version yields the same result as the "C" and is the correct fit for the cables.
The "A" version is also used in some Yamaha Grizzly ATVs. Called my local Yamaha motorcycle shop and they have them in stock and I will get them later this week. The price - $3.00 each.
