Default bfd15 honda 2006 yr

I recently had the carb rebuilt by dealer, they said everything was fine, i took the boat out today and the motor starts fine, idles smooth for about 3min and dies, then when i restart and attempt to throttle up the engine surges or misses and dies. it restarts easily, idles smooth but ides after few min,

i have new fuel, filters, and a new 10 micron element installed, checked plugs, i am losing confidence in this dealer, can someone help identify this problem?

It sounds like there is still may be a problem with the carburator. They may have missed a couple of passages (and there are many in this carb). If you had a problem with water in the fuel, there is also a fuel chamber that sits below the fuel pump that can accumulate water. If it was not cleaned out (actually hose removed and dumped), it could still have water in it and it could have gotten into the carburator.

Drain the carburator into a glass jar and sample the fuel. You will quickly see if there is water in the fuel.

One other thing it could be (although a long shot) is a thermostat that is stuck closed. Even though the water is pissing out, a stuck thermostat (closed) will cause the motor to overheat and most of these motors will sense that and turn off.

If it is convenient to run the motor again after you drain the carburator, pull the thermostat after it fails and see if it is open or closed.

One last thing to check is the oil level. An overfull level can cause the engine to bog down, not accelerate and quit. When the motor is vertical, make sure the oil is a little below the full mark.

You may want to give the dealer a call and see if they will step up to the plate and fix what was not fixed. If it is a Honda dealer, they should know this carburator well...if not, they may not have the manuals to show them how to completely clean it.

Hopefully, they were running it in a test tank underload. Not just on a hose.

If you take it back to them, also take your fuel tank. You never know when there is something in the tank or the fuel line that can cause the problem.

Good luck.

Mike
