Default BF5A Carb problem

After a 6 month rainy season lay up engine not starting - cleaned gunk from carb bowl and main jet. Engine started - but gas/petrol leaking from hole on top body central in photo as per link. What cause this? its a bypass hole or what?

Is this something simple to fix?

It appears that your float valve is stuck.

I guess you need to take it apart again and make sure all the goo is gone from the valve.

Mike - yes that cleared the problem - but valve needed to be replaced with a very similar from a motorbike - really need 'spares in hand' to do this job properly. Getting those organised now.

Thanks for the guidance
