Default BF15DK Carb - How Do I Reinstall Accelerator-Pump Check Valve??

I had to tear down and clean out my 2007 BF15DKSH's carb because it got junk in it after someone dumped rusty water into my gas tank. I've got a shop manual and I've also been referring to the parts diagram on Boats.net. When I removed the accelerator pump plunger and spring, I discovered a **** check-valve ball in one of the bottom ports of the bore, and the ball was held down into its port by a small internal snap ring. The snap ring fits into a smaller diameter section at the bottom of the plunger bore, and it runs across the top of the check-valve ball. The ball and the snap ring are neither mentioned as part of the tear-down procedure in the manual nor are they shown in the parts diagram.

I'm now trying to re-install the check valve into the bottom of the plunger bore, and for the life of me, I cannot find a groove to accept the snap ring. I can get the snap ring to be a friction fit in the bottom of the bore, but that's it. The other possibility is that the snap-ring was "glued" in place somehow, and not intended to be removed. When I removed it, it didn't pop out easily, but it could've also been held in place by some corrosion or debris. It's so small and difficult to see that I didn't notice exactly how it was held in place when I removed it.

Can anyone tell me how this check-valve and in particular the snap ring go back together?

Thanks much,
Jerry
