Default 8 vs 9.9hp 4 stroke

Hello everyone,

I'm looking at used Honda 4 stroke long shaft manual start kickers. I've been looking for ~2005 range but they are few and far between. I've come across a 2001 8hp and a 2000 9.9hp. Both apparently low hours. Are these motors prone to any particular problems and if so, are the parts readily available? The 9.9 apparently has had the water pump replaced. Isn't this unusual if it is low hours? I am unable to find the weight for each of these 2 motors as weight could be a concern for me. Does anyone have this information (weight)? It seems the 15 and 9.9 are essentially the same motor so I'm assuming the 8 is lighter.

Any red flags for either of these motors?

The 9.9 is priced $95 more, wondering if it would be a better investment, the 8 is more than capable of pushing my 2000lb bowrider. I might be more inclined to go with the 8 simply due to it being lighter.

Thanks in advance.

The 8hp will wiegh about 90 lbs and 9.9 about 100 lbs. Have seen problems getting parts from Honda on 15-20 year old and older motors.
