I have a honda 5hp 4-stroke marine engine. It is probably an '02 or '03. The engine worked flawlessly for a few years and then I started having problems where I could not get any power to the prop. I tracked it down to the fact that the engine was ****ing through shear pins. I found some reference online to the problem and one person said there was a service bulletin put out saying that the particular model BF5 could not use brass shear pins and that SS shear pins had to be used. The SS pins are much stronger than the brass models and that solves the problem.

Does anyone know if a Service bulletin has been posted on this model and if the fix is to use SS shear pins? Where do you get the SS pins? I have only seen brass pins in any marine store.

I didn't see any bulletins on it and there is only one part number listed in parts diagram.
