My 1995 BAJL-100725 25 HP 1995 engine suffers from water getting into the crankcase oil. I measured compression on each cylinder. All three cylinders provided 180 PSIG compression. I checked the thermostat; it opens when dipped into simmering hot water, and closes as the thermostat cools.

I dread pulling the motor to change the gasket between the power end and the engine under case. Is it possible for water to enter the crankcase oil via a bad extention case grommet, water tube seal ring, or the oil pan gasket?

Is there any way to elimate possible leak points other than replacing all the gaskets that come into contact with water and oil?

Does anyone else have experience with this problem?

Check to see if motor is riding high enough out of water. The exhaust releif holes on back of lower engine cover should be 4 or 5 inches above water line. If motor is too low in water it may be sucking water back up through exhaust.

I checked the distance from the drain holes to the water line. I measured 13 inches, so I don't think water is backing up.

I didn't have any problem for the first 9 years I owned the boat and motor. The water in oil problem cropped up year 10, and has really gotten bad this year, year 11.

Any other suggestions? How can I eliminate the head gasket as the problem?

Are there any ways to figure out where the water is getting into the oil?

Kevin

Although I havn't seen any 25 hp with this problem but Honda has had trouble with corrosion problem's. If it's running ok then prbably remove powerhead and replace oil pan gaskets.

FYI - the replacement gasket between the powerhead and lower engine case comes with a bit of silicone on it; right where I thought water might be comming through.

Any chance this is a hidden warrenty issue?

FYI

The new gaskets (top and bottom of the engine under case) eliminated the water getting into the oil problem.
