I have a 2001 50 hp that will not turn off and the tachometer works when it wants to. I installed a new tachometer and a new ignition panel. I still have the same problem. I checked and cleaned all the grounds on the motor, checked harness connections for corrosion and checked and cleaned wires to battery. Any ideas on what to check next?

Another problem I have is the motor runs a little rough at idle and likes to stall when I put into gear and likes to stall when I start to give it gas to get on plane. I rebuilt the carbs and still had the problem. I took to a Honda dealer and they told me they have to be cleaned with a special cleaner Honda recommends with a sonic cleaner. Paid them $450 and still had the problem.

May be a bad main harness between ignition switch and engine, black/red wire in harness may be broken.
Need to take it back to that dealer and ask them to recheck carb synchronization.
